Do you wish there was a way to turn back the clock on your skin, erasing damage done by aging and sun exposure? You’re not alone; in 2018, more than 600,000 people sought laser resurfacing for skin blemishes.
At Skin Deep Laser MD, serving the Fort Worth, Weatherford, Benbrook, Burleson, Mansfield, Grandbury, and Arlington areas of Texas, Dr. Laura Riehm offers ICON® 1540 fractional laser skin resurfacing. This procedure can enhance the youthful appearance of your skin with minimal downtime and discomfort.
Introducing 1540nm skin resurfacing
The 1540nm fractional resurfacing laser is one of the latest innovations in a long history of using lasers to rejuvenate skin. The 1540nm is a non-ablative laser, which means that it leaves the epidermis intact (as opposed to an ablative laser that physically strips away the top layer of skin.)
The 1540nm laser is also a fractional laser, meaning instead of treating the entire area, it treats only select “pixels” across the area, resulting in a less intense experience and allowing the skin to begin to remodel and restore itself much faster (meaning little to no “down time”).
During your 1540nm fractional resurfacing treatment, pulses of energy pass through the uppermost layer of your skin and are absorbed by the deeper layers as heat. The heat causes contraction, tightening your skin.
This type of targeted heat in the deep layers of your skin stimulates your body’s natural healing process. Collagen production is kick-started by the laser’s action and begins to fill in fine lines, wrinkles, and dimples caused by acne or cellulite.
Skin cell turnover reduces the appearance of surgical scars and stretch marks as well as sunspots, age spots, and other blemishes. Conditions like rosacea can also be minimized by fractional laser therapy.
The quality, tone, and overall texture of your skin will be improved, and you’ll look younger, fresher, and rejuvenated.
Your 1540nm treatment
Before your treatment, your healthcare professional will apply a prescription numbing cream to keep your skin cool and help minimize any discomfort you might experience. They will also give you eye shields to protect your eyes from the light of the laser during your treatment.
During treatment, you will typically feel a warming sensation, but you shouldn’t feel any pain. After treatment, redness and swelling may appear and last for a day or two. Since the 1540nm is a fractional, non-ablative laser, which is gentler than many other resurfacing lasers, you shouldn’t have any downtime.
You can repeat 1540nm laser resurfacing treatments with about three to six weeks between each one. Most patients get the results they want with just a few treatments. The effects can last for years, although most choose to do an occasional maintenance treatment to maximize and continue the improvements they see in their skin.
