The effects of time seem to really ramp up as you get older, leaving their telltale signs all over the surface of your skin, especially on your highly exposed face. If you’d like to bring out that younger, fresher version of yourself, our IPL photo facial technology is just the ticket.
Here at Skin Deep Laser MD, our goal is to provide our clients in Fort Worth with the tools they need to keep their skin fresh and ageless. Through our highly advanced Palomar Icon™ laser system, we can diminish fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, facial veins, and more, allowing you to greet the world with skin that glows from the inside out.
Here’s how our IPL photo facial improves your skin, quickly and painlessly.
The passage of time
There are many forces behind the signs of aging in your skin, starting with exposure to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. In a process called photoaging, your skin’s cells break down more quickly at the hands of the sun and as you age, you simply don’t have the resources for the necessary repairs anymore.
This is largely because your body starts to ratchet down its production of collagen and elastin — the two proteins responsible for the elasticity and tone in your skin. Once you hit your 30s, your collagen production slowly wanes and continues to do so through your 40s. For women, the passage through menopause causes a considerable drop, leaving their skin without the structure it once had.
Not only does the sun break down your skin cells, it can also cause your melanin to cluster together to form age spots and it draws weakened veins up to the surface of your skin.
Taken all together, you can see how the myriad blemishes begin to crop up in earnest as you age.
Fighting light with light
Funnily enough, we counteract the effects that the sun’s light has had on your skin with our own light. IPL stands for intense pulsed light, which is a technology that allows us to send light energy beneath your skin to break up blemishes and encourage collagen production. In fact, our Icon photofacial can tackle the following problems:
-
Age spots, freckles, brown pigmentation
-
Red pigmentation, spider veins, rosacea
-
Port wine stains
-
Melasma
-
Hemangiomas (a bright red birthmark)
-
Moderate fine lines and wrinkles
-
Dull skin tone
-
Acne scarring
The light beams travel harmlessly through the surface of your skin, targeting the tissue below, more specifically, your hemoglobin and melanin. These cells absorb the energy as heat, which is what allows us to get rid of facial veins and areas of hyperpigmentation.
At the same time, the absorption of this energy spurs a mild healing response, and your collagen is usually the first to answer the call. By gently “waking up” the production of your structural proteins, we can give your skin more support and tone, which diminishes lines and wrinkles.
A photo-worthy photofacial
Most of our clients benefit from a series of IPL laser treatments (3-5), which we spread out by several weeks to allow time for your body to respond. Since the technology is noninvasive, there’s no downtime afterward, but you may experience some mild redness or swelling.
As you progress through your treatments, your results build gradually as your skin flushes out the damaged cells and rebuilds itself with new collagen and elastin. At about 6-12 weeks after your final session, you’re rewarded with a face you’ll love to greet in the mirror each morning.
